Florida to pass dating violence bill today
Today in Florida, a new dating violence bill will be signed into law. The Barwick/Ruschak Act was named after two victims of dating violence, Tiffany Barwick and Michael Ruschack. On September 24, 2007 both were killed by Barwick’s ex-boyfriend. Only hours before Barwick and Ruschack went to the police station to report an email death threat sent by the ex.
The new law will provide the same rights to those in a dating violence situation as those in domestic violence situations. The families of the victims will be present at the signing.

There is no question that there is a lot to know about this and I feel you made some great points.
This story touched me deeply. I am so happy this law was passed….I saw the story on 20/20 then it got me thinking that my daughter that had moved to the vecinbity of Oviedo in 2007 to attend UCF had told me about it.It is such a shame, my daughter had to suffer herself from dealing with Seminole County Police….and feel ignored and discounted. I pray to God daily to protect my daughter…and know that it is hard to think that we cannot count on the authorities to do the same. My daughter and her friends from UCF feel that the police department is bias and this does not make it a safe place for our kids. With us, there has been 3 incidents where Seminole Sherriff and Oviedo and Casselberry Police have noe been there for us and also her boyfriend. By the way, I own a home in Seminole County and I feel that that my taxes are going to waist when it comes to the Police protection we expect.
