Guide Introducing our Safety Planning Guide

Today we’re announcing a new feature on our website — the safety planning guide! It’s an interactive feature that can help you customize your very own safety plan.

We care a lot about your safety. We place a lot of importance on creating a safety plan for each of our callers/texters/chatters. A safety plan is a personalized, step-by-step plan that can help you know how to react when you are in a dangerous situation. These plans include ways you can stay safe, both physically and emotionally. Safety plans can be used by anyone — people who are in abusive relationships, dating abuse survivors, parents/friends, etc.

When anyone calls, chats or texts, we stress making a safety plan. We safety plan with anyone who is concerned about their own safety, or the safety of another person. Although some of the things in safety plans may seem obvious, they are important to cover because when you’re stressed out your brain doesn’t work the way it usually does. When adrenaline is racing through your body it can be hard to think clearly about your safety. Safety plans can help you to make decisions about your well being, even under pressure.

Safety plans look different for different types of abuse and different people. Your safety plan should fit you and your specific situation.
