Even for the most 'experienced' dater, knowing what to do and how to act when you're getting to know someone new can be a little weird. A bad first date can end up feeling like a job interview (for a job you really don't want anymore). If the date goes well, there's a whole slew of other things to think about: should you text first or wait for them to text? When can you change your relationship status on Facebook? How soon is too soon to tell them about your embarrassing Twilight obsession?
A funny new online YouTube series asks the question, “Why doesn’t dating work like the rest of the world?” The videos take a look at what it’d be like if dating conventions were different. What if dating was like Reddit? Or like the entertainment industry (“Email me and my assistant will contact you to set something up”)? They even have an “If Dating Was Like an M. Night Shyamalan film” video (spoiler alert: your date is actually a ghost).
The "If Dating Was Like Reality Television" clip pokes fun at the dramatics of dating: "When she hung up on me, I would have to say that it was the most difficult thing I'd ever been through in my entire life." There's a lot more heartbreaking violin sounds and moments in black and white, but some of it feels true to real life. To avoid feeling like your love life is being filmed on the set of The Real World, keep in mind what makes a relationship a healthy one — like respect, support and communication.
