Volunteer Testimonies

Check out what loveisrespect volunteers have to say about us!

“I’ve been a volunteer at the Helpline since my 17th birthday. The training that we go through is about 40 hours which seems like a lot of time but everything you learn is really interesting.  I’m not exactly what you would call a morning person but I was still able to stay awake during our training.

The supervisors are really understanding about your schedule so they make it easy to fit the minimum of 8 hours a month into your busy life. I was able to go to high school, have a job, and be a football trainer while staying at the Helpline thanks to them.

The other advocates are awesome and are always ready to help whether it is with a caller/chatter or with your own personal life.  Like other teens the end of high school was a tough time for me but I was very lucky to have people here at the Helpline that wouldn’t hesitate take time to talk to me.  I’ve been here about a year and a half now and I’m not planning on leaving any time soon.â€

“Being an advocate at loveisrespect has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my life.  It is not only the way in which I have been able to reach out to young people around the nation and offer them compassion alongside resources and information in their time of great need.   But, it is also the way in which this experience has afforded me the opportunity to find a more honest conception of myself.  The training required to become a Helpline advocate allowed me to look at my past experiences while learning valuable information on relationship violence and how to reach out to those experiencing violence within their own relationships.  This has created a more detailed picture of who I am within own mind and allowed me to be the stronger and more capable person I am today.”

“I thought about training and thought ‘oh this is going to be so boring’ like most trainings I went to were. But this one was different it was fun lots or activities and really enjoyable.”
