School is out and the sun is shining, and if you’re like me, you’re already sweating up a storm. That’s right, summer has arrived! Summer is a time for relaxing and recharging, but it can also be a good time to reconnect with that partner you only saw three times during finals week. Or trade numbers with the cute lifeguard at the pool. Regardless of your relationship status, summer has some of its own unique rules for dating.
Summertime and the Living is Easy
With so much open time in the summer, sometimes a couple hours can feel like forever. But try not to let the long days lead to too much texting. Some space is good for your relationship. If your partner is at the beach with her friends, try not to call her every hour to ask when she’s coming home. If your crush says he’s out to dinner with his family, try to trust he’ll text you when he’s back.
Just because everyone is on their own schedule during the summer, doesn’t mean you have to be constantly communicating with your partner. If you do catch yourself worrying, consider distracting yourself by going outside and enjoying the sun!
Trust Makes the World Go Round
You might want to see your partner every day when you finally get off your summer job, but too much together time can be a bad thing too. Try balancing your time with them and your friends. And remember — just because they’re not with you, doesn’t mean you need to check every Facebook photo to see who they are with. Trust is so important in a healthy relationship, so use the summer time to brush up on your trust skills!
